Our Mission Statement
Bumper “T” Caring Clowns is a not-for-profit, volunteer organization dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of patients, as well as their families, friends, and caregivers. We recognize that gentle humor is a powerful and effective tool in promoting the healing process and in helping to relieve some of the stress and anxiety of a hospital stay.
The concept behind Bumper “T” Caring Clowns was born almost thirty years ago.
Bumper “T” was visiting his hospitalized dad. When the hospital staff saw how his gentle humor was helping his father, they asked him to visit other patients. This rewarding experience was the inspiration that led Bumper “T” to assemble a group of caring individuals to bring hugs, smiles, and humor to hospitalized patients.
How We Grew
From the very start, Bumper “T” understood the importance of setting high standards for appropriate behavior in a hospital environment.
Bumper and his core group of caring clown colleagues decided to develop a set of policies, guidelines, and procedures that subsequently became the foundation of a comprehensive caring clown curriculum. On “merry-go-rounds” throughout the hospital, our students practice the art of sensitivity and become responsive and responsible members of the wellness team.
Today Bumper “T” Caring Clowns, Inc. is a growing, not-for-profit organization. Volunteer clowns visit numerous hospitals throughout southern New Jersey, eastern Pennsylvania and southeastern Maryland on a regularly scheduled basis.
Thanks to the generous support from institutions such as Cooper University Hospital, and other supports, Bumper “T” and his associates now visit thousands of hospitalized men, women, and children every year.
Our Dedicated Volunteers
At the present time, the organization is made up of over 100 dedicated men and women who give unselfishly of their time and energy to make a positive difference in the hospital environment.
